SSNIT: Only Family Members Can Be Pension Beneficiaries (No Boyfriends or Girlfriends Allowed)
The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has made it clear that members can’t name a boyfriend or girlfriend as a pension beneficiary; only blood relatives can do that. Frank Molbila, the SSNIT Benefits Manager, spoke at a pension literacy forum in Sunyani and told workers to join the scheme and plan for retirement. He stressed the scheme’s long-term financial security and lifetime payments. He said that SSNIT paid GHC6.77 billion in pensions in 2025 and plans to pay GHC8.21 billion in 2026. The benefits range from about GHC400 to more than GHC213,000 per month. He also talked about how invalidity pensioners are still getting help and told members to keep their beneficiary records up to date.
