Gov’t Pushes Ghana Defence University (GH¢25m Seed Funding, Bill in Pipeline!)

Haruna Iddrisu, Ghana’s Minister of Education, has said again that the government is committed to building the Ghana Defence University. He said that real steps are being taken to make the project happen. He said during a site visit that the Ghana Education Trust Fund is working on long-term funding plans. For the first phase, GH¢25 million will be set aside as seed money under the 2026 formula. He also said that work is still going on with the Office of the Attorney-General Ghana to write a draft bill that Parliament can approve. He suggested adding modern fields like Artificial Intelligence to the university’s curriculum to keep up with changing security needs. He stressed the professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces. During the visit, Deputy Defense Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi praised the leader. Chief of Defense Staff William Agyapong also spoke, saying that the institution would provide advanced training for not only the military but also for other security agencies in Ghana and neighboring countries. This would make it a future center of excellence in military education and research.
