Speaker Bagbin just shut down the gold probe, $214 million in question, but Parliament won’t ask a single one
Speaker Alban Bagbin has ruled that a Private Member’s motion filed by Minority MPs led by Abena Osei-Asare, asking for a parliamentary investigation into the alleged sale of gold reserves by the Bank of Ghana, is not valid. This was reported in a memo from the Clerk to Parliament dated April 7 and sent to key sponsors such as Patrick Yaw Boamah and Isaac Boamah-Nyarko. The motion, which was filed on February 9, 2026, suggested setting up an ad hoc committee to look into the reported deal. The Minority had already connected it to a $214 million loss under the Gold-for-Reserves program, which raised questions about accountability, openness, and environmental governance.
