Pastor, mother, two others charged with burying 5-month-old baby alive, Bibiani court orders social enquiry as child is rescued.
A pastor, Richmond Frimpong, 36, popularly known as Prophet, a hairdresser and mother of a five-month-old baby, Beatrice Agyapongmaa, 23, and Emmanuel Appiah have been remanded by the Bibiani District Court in the Western North Region for allegedly attempting to bury the child alive at a refuse dump near Abofrem. Frimpong and Agyapongmaa have been charged with conspiracy to commit attempted murder and Frimpong is also charged with attempted murder. Appiah and an accomplice, Donkor, who is at large, have been charged with abetment of attempted murder. The court presided over by Mr Lord Delvin Essandoh did not accept their pleas and denied them bail and ordered a social enquiry into the welfare of the rescued baby who is in the custody of the mother’s grandmother but considered to be at risk. Prosecutors said the incident happened on April 10 when a local security guard, acting on a tip, discovered the suspects trying to bury the baby, saying it was dead, but was found to be alive. Investigations revealed that the mother had sought spiritual assistance from Frimpong for the child’s health which led to alleged rituals and he reportedly told her the baby would die, then when the baby was still alive they allegedly agreed to end its life. “The baby was saved before being buried and the suspects were arrested and the police are preparing the case for advice from the Attorney-General’s Department.” The case has been adjourned until May 5, 2026.
