US deploys ‘Guardian’ repellent to fight malaria, 30 million units over three years to protect 60 million people in Africa, Asia.

The United States Department of State has announced a new partnership with SC Johnson and the Global Fund to deploy “Guardian,” a first-of-its-kind American spatial repellent designed to reduce the burden of malaria and save lives. Under the initiative, about 30 million Guardian repellents will be procured and distributed over the next three years to protect more than 60 million people, particularly in high-burden countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. The technology, which has shown up to one year of effectiveness in field testing, is expected to provide protection through multiple malaria seasons. The U.S. Department of State said the initiative forms part of its America First Global Health Strategy aimed at supporting American-made medical innovations, boosting U.S. manufacturing and research jobs, and expanding markets for U.S. companies while accelerating efforts toward malaria elimination and strengthening global health outcomes.
