Haruna Iddrisu orders GTEC to withdraw retirement letter, ‘Honour lecturers’ agreed conditions of service.’

Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has directed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to withdraw its controversial letter on the retirement and post-retirement engagement of university lecturers, stressing that the Commission must uphold the existing conditions of service for academic staff.

The directive was issued during the commissioning of a new hostel facility at Wisconsin International University College in Feyiase, Ashanti Region, following concerns by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) that the letter had created uncertainty within the tertiary education sector.

Mr Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to honouring the agreed conditions of service for university lecturers, including existing exemptions under the retirement policy for eligible academic staff.
