Adwoa Safo Backs Brother Akofena as Leader of Kantanka Family and Kristo Asafo Church
Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, has publicly recognised her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, as leader of the Kantanka family and the Kristo Asafo Church, in a move she says is aimed at restoring unity within the family. In a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, she said she had chosen reconciliation and mutual respect in honour of their late father, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo. “I have immense love and respect for my brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, and in the spirit of honouring our father’s wishes, I publicly acknowledge and accept him as the Leader of the Kantanka Family and the Kristo Asafo Church,” she said. Adwoa Safo also pledged to work with Akofena and her other siblings to carry forward their father’s vision, calling on the family to move beyond the disagreements that followed his death in September 2025.
Her declaration comes after months of disagreement over who should lead the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder. In June, the late Apostle’s family rejected Akofena’s claim to the leadership of the mission and maintained that the succession arrangements established by their father remained in force, while recognising Adwoa Safo as Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family and principal representative of its interests. She has now urged members of the church and the wider Kantanka family to respect the renewed commitment to reconciliation and place their shared inheritance ahead of their differences. “Our father’s legacy transcends any one individual. It is a collective inheritance and a profound responsibility entrusted to us, as his children,” she said.
