Chairman Wontumi to Return to Court October 27 Over Alleged GH¢30m Exim Bank Fraud
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to appear before the High Court on October 27, 2026, for a case management conference in an alleged GH¢30 million loan fraud case involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank (Exim Bank). Wontumi, who is standing trial alongside two others, has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including defrauding by false pretence, two counts of uttering forged documents, money laundering and intentionally causing financial loss to a public body. The prosecution alleges that documents submitted to secure the loan in 2018 for a proposed farming project were forged or altered, and that the accused failed to establish the farm, acquire machinery, employ workers or secure the land presented to the bank.
The prosecution further alleges that Wontumi withdrew substantial sums from the accounts of Wontumi Farms Limited for personal use, including investments in other businesses. The court has directed the prosecution to file its disclosures within 14 days ahead of the next hearing, scheduled for 11 a.m. on October 27. Following the proceedings, Wontumi was returned to Nsawam Maximum Security Prison, where he is serving a separate 20-year prison sentence imposed by another High Court in Accra. The allegations in the Exim Bank case remain before the court and have not been established as facts.
