Henry Nana Boakye, National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has denied asking Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for a favour to retain his service passport, describing the claim as an attempt to divert attention from questions surrounding GH¢16.4 million in alleged discrepancies in Ghana’s evacuation expenditure in South Africa. In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Nana B said he surrendered his service passport in compliance with the President’s directive and only sought a letter to enable visas in the passport to be transferred to his ordinary passport. He explained that Mr Ablakwa personally asked him to get Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, to follow up on the letter, but after being told it was not ready, he abandoned the process and applied for new visas. He insisted that neither he nor the MP sought special treatment.

Nana B also questioned how the Majority in Parliament obtained and displayed the biographical page of his service passport, which he said was in the custody of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He accused the Majority of portraying Mr Asafo-Adjei’s scrutiny of the evacuation expenditure as a personal vendetta rather than addressing the concerns raised from documents provided by the Minister himself. Nana B urged the Majority to demand explanations from Mr Ablakwa over the alleged inconsistencies, invoking President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to accountability. The claims of possible corruption and the alleged failure to account for portions of the evacuation expenditure remain allegations and require further verification.
