Bye, ECG Stress — Hello Solar Credits! Gov’t Launches Game-Changing Net-Metering Portal.

In an effort to make net metering a simpler process and to encourage a greater number of individuals to use solar energy, the government has introduced a new digital site. The net metering system enables companies and residences who have solar panels to transmit more power to the national grid in exchange for credits on their electric bills. During the inaugural event in Accra, Deputy Energy Minister Richard Gyan-Mensah said that the website would enable users to submit applications for smart meters and monitor solar installations around the country, which would, in turn, eliminate longstanding administrative bottlenecks. The African Development Bank, the Climate Investment Funds, the government of Ghana, and the nation of Switzerland are all providing their support for this project, which is one of the measures being taken in order to diversify the energy sources that are available in the country. Simone Giger, the Swiss ambassador, said that the system will lead to improvements in both the accuracy of data and documentation. In addition, the Energy Commission pointed out that the system would lead to improvements in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy. The African Development Bank drew attention to the fact that it had provided $27 million in support of renewable energy initiatives, which included mini-grids and net metering. The site is anticipated by the government to facilitate the adoption of solar energy and to make it more feasible for people to get clean, inexpensive electricity.
