Emotional Check-In

An emotional check-in is about creating intentional space to understand how your partner is doing beyond surface-level interactions. Instead of assuming everything is fine or only addressing emotions during conflict, ask open-ended questions such as, “How have you been feeling emotionally lately?” or “Is there anything weighing on you that I should be aware of?”

The goal is not to fix or correct emotions, but to listen attentively and without judgment. Avoid interrupting, minimizing, or becoming defensive. Emotional safety is built when a partner feels heard, validated, and respected. Regular emotional check-ins help prevent emotional distance by addressing small concerns before they grow into larger issues.
