GH¢12 Per Kilo: Gov’t Agrees on Fair Price to Support Cashew Farmers
The government has fixed GH¢12 per kilogram as the minimum price for raw cashew nuts for the 2025/26 season to safeguard farmers’ earnings and support the development of the cashew sector. The Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) made the decision after a stakeholder meeting on December 10, 2025, in Techiman, which brought together farmers, traders, middlemen, exporters, and processors. The TCDA explained that the price was initially calculated at about GH¢11.16 per kilogram using a formula that considered international market prices, exchange rates, quality standards, and other costs. After discussions, stakeholders agreed on a more straightforward and farmer-friendly price of GH¢12 per kilogram, which was approved by the government. The Authority said the move shows a shared commitment to fairness, better motivation for farmers, and a stable, competitive cashew market, adding that the price will be reviewed regularly to reflect changes in global prices and exchange rates, and thanked all stakeholders for supporting the long-term sustainability of the cashew sector.
