UEW Stands Tall!

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has praised the management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) for prioritising teacher preparation, embracing digital advancement, maintaining high educational standards, and turning out graduates who are well equipped for employment. He made the remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf at the first session of UEW’s 30th congregation held in Winneba, where 8,288 students from various faculties and schools were awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates. The Minister said UEW plays an important role in achieving Ghana’s education goals and assured the university of the government’s continued support, describing it as the country’s leading institution for training teachers and education professionals whose work goes beyond awarding certificates to shaping the nation’s future. He encouraged the graduates to see their achievement as the beginning of a greater responsibility to teach, lead, inspire and serve with integrity. In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual thanked the government for its support, praised President John Mahama’s leadership and efforts to fight illegal mining, and said UEW would support the fight against galamsey through research and expert advice. He also welcomed the directive to use Ghanaian languages as the medium of instruction from kindergarten to primary three, reaffirmed UEW’s commitment to national development, and acknowledged support from partners including World Medical Relief and the Ghana Health Service to improve the university hospital and healthcare services.
