Gov’t to Pay Military Gratuity Arrears (2-Year Plan Ends 5-Year Impasse for 2,393 Retirees)
The Ghana Armed Forces said that the government will start paying back gratuity to retired soldiers under Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129. The military said in a press release on February 25, 2026, that they had come up with a plan for a two-year phased implementation after five years of talks with the Ministries of Finance and Defense. Payments will be made in four installments starting on February 27, 2026, and ending in December 2027. These payments will go to 238 officers and 2,155 soldiers who retired between November 2020 and December 2021. Future retirements will fully follow CI 129. The Armed Forces said the move solves a long-standing problem and thanked the government for its help.
