Health Minister to Doctors: Accept Rural Postings or Be Removed from Payroll by Feb 2026
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has told new doctors that if they don’t accept jobs in rural areas, they could lose their jobs with the government by the end of February 2026. While visiting the University of Ghana College of Health Sciences at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for work, he told teachers and trainers to encourage young doctors to work in communities that don’t have enough staff. He said that at the end of February, there would be a nationwide validation exercise to make sure that only doctors who have reported to their assigned posts stay on the payroll. He stressed that the state pays for a lot of medical education and that doctors must give back by serving their country.
