Mahama Announces GH₵20m Film Fund (Boost for Kumawood, Gallywood, Creative Arts)

While giving the 2026 State of the Nation Address to Parliament on February 27, 2026, John Dramani Mahama said that the government would give the film industry GH₵20 million. He said that this money would help local film hubs like Kumawood and Gallywood and support the creative arts as a way to boost the economy. He stressed that tourism and the creative arts, especially creatives using new media, are helping to promote Ghana around the world. He also said that the economy will increasingly depend on human creativity to create jobs for people who lose their jobs because of new AI technologies. He added that Ghana’s growing popularity as a tourist destination is due to its history, culture, arts, music, fashion, and food.
