NDC Stands Firm: Withdrawal of Bill Doesn’t Signal Party Fractures
NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey has denied claims that there is division in the party after President John Dramani Mahama ordered the withdrawal of a private member’s Bill aimed at abolishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He said that individual MPs’ opinions do not represent the party’s official stance. Kwetey explained that the NDC decides its position on major matters through discussions by its top decision-making bodies, especially the political committee, and the President speaks for the party as its leader. He added that while members can have personal opinions, these should not be mistaken for party policy, and normal disagreements don’t mean the party is split. He therefore dismissed suggestions that pulling the Bill had caused any internal tension.
