Power Play: AKSA Ahwomaso Plant Integration Promises More Watts for Homes and Industry

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has said that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has started the work to link the new AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant into the national electricity network and carry out testing as part of the connection process, according to a statement issued on Monday, December 22. This is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the power system, increase the amount of electricity generated, and make power supply more dependable across the country. When the plant is fully hooked up, it should add around 141 megawatts (MW) of power to the grid, helping to improve electricity for homes, businesses, and factories, especially around the middle parts of Ghana. The Ministry warned that there might be short, temporary power cuts in some areas while the tie‑in and testing are happening, but said these will be carefully handled to keep the transmission system safe and stable. It added that the work is being done for the country’s long‑term benefit and will support a more reliable service, and that it will keep working with other agencies to help ensure stable electricity throughout the Christmas season and beyond, as has largely been the case this year.
