1,568 Newly Qualified Lawyers Called to Ghana Bar

A total of 1,568 newly qualified lawyers, including four Members of Parliament and three media practitioners, have been called to the Ghana Bar at a ceremony held on Friday, October 9, 2026. The MPs are Samuel Nartey George, MP for Ningo-Prampram and Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources; Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso; and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, MP for Awutu Senya East. The media practitioners are Umaru Sanda Amadu of Channel One TV and Citi FM, Naa Ashorkor Duodu, a media personality and TV3 presenter, and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim. They joined the other inductees after meeting the requirements for entry into the legal profession.

Welcoming the newly qualified lawyers and dignitaries, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed said the call to the Bar marked the transition from legal education to professional practice. He explained that the General Legal Council (GLC), under Section 7 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32), was mandated to convene formal meetings for the enrolment and call to the Bar of qualified applicants. Mr Ahmed said the ceremony represented not only the culmination of an academic journey but also the beginning of a vocation requiring diligence, sacrifice and family support. He reminded the new lawyers of their responsibility as officers of the court to uphold the rule of law before inviting Chief Justice and GLC Chairperson Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to formally declare the meeting open.
