Ronaldo Eyes 1,000 Goals—Legend Vows to Play On Past 40!

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the captain of Portugal, says he won’t stop playing until he scores his 1,000th goal.

On Saturday, the 40-year-old scored twice in Al-Nassr’s 3-0 win over Al Akhdoud. This brought his total for club and country to 956 goals.

The forward signed a new two-year deal with the Saudi Arabian club last July. This deal will keep him with the team until after his 42nd birthday.

After winning the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday for being the Best Middle East Player, Ronaldo said, “It’s hard to keep playing, but I’m motivated.”

“My passion is strong, and I want to keep going. No matter where I play, whether it’s in the Middle East or Europe. I always have fun playing football, and I want to keep doing it.

“You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies and get to that number [1,000 goals] that you all know. I will definitely get to the number if I don’t get hurt.

Ronaldo told Piers Morgan last month that he wanted to quit playing soccer “soon.”

“I think I’ll be ready.” Of course, it will be hard. Ronaldo said, “I will probably cry.”

Ronaldo has scored 13 goals in 14 games this season for Al-Nassr, who are four points ahead of the rest of the teams in the Saudi Pro League.

Al-Nassr has only won one trophy since the forward joined the team, the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, even though he has scored 112 goals in 125 games.

Ronaldo has scored 143 goals for Portugal and 450 for Real Madrid. He is also the only player to have scored more than 100 goals for four clubs: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr.

In November, the striker said that the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico will be his last international tournament.

He led Portugal to their first international men’s trophy when they won Euro 2016 in France.
