Senegal, Mali Through to AFCON Quarters—Clash Set After Dramatic Wins!
Senegal and Mali have made it to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Senegal came back from behind to beat Sudan 3-1 in Tangier. Pape Gueye scored twice, and Ibrahim Mbaye, who came off the bench, scored the winning goal after Aamir Abdallah of Sudan scored early. Senegal, the former champions, will play Mali, who moved on after a 1-1 draw with Tunisia. Mali won 3-2 on penalties, even though they played most of the match with ten men after Woyo Coulibaly got a red card. Lassine Sinayoko’s penalty kick in stoppage time sent the game into extra time, and El Bilal Toure’s penalty kick in the shootout was the one that won it. Senegal changed six players in their starting lineup, and their captain Kalidou Koulibaly was suspended. Sudan only had one player from their last game. Mali has never won the Cup of Nations, but they will play Senegal next Friday in Tangier. Both teams made it to the last eight despite facing tough situations.
