Manasseh: Ofori-Atta Arrest Was Targeted—Ex-Minister Picked Up at DC Luxury Apartment

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has detailed the circumstances surrounding the arrest of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in the United States, describing it as a targeted operation, explaining on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, January 10, 2026, that sources confirmed Ofori-Atta was arrested around 11 a.m. on January 6 at the Westlight building, a high-end residential complex located at 1111 24th Street in Northwest Washington, D.C., about a 20-minute walk from the White House, where he reportedly lived with his wife and son; Manasseh noted the building houses prominent personalities, including former US Vice President Kamala Harris, who previously owned a two-bedroom apartment there sold for about $1.85 million, adding that although it is unclear whether Ofori-Atta owned or rented his apartment, authorities surrounded the building and took him into custody as he exited, stating: “He was arrested at the Westlight building, which is located at 1111,24th Street in Northwest Washington, D.C., and we are told this is a very expensive residential area in Washington, D.C., located about 20 minutes’ walk from the White House… We hear that the place is very expensive, safe, and home to famous people. We don’t know if Ken Ofori-Atta bought the building or is renting it, but sources say this is where he has been living and going in and out of until the morning of January 6, when the police surrounded him and took him to his current detention center. He said that unlike typical ICE mass arrests in public places, “it seems they went there on purpose to arrest him, and once they got him in the car, they moved,” which suggests a planned and targeted arrest.
