Trump Sends More Federal Agents to Minneapolis After ICE Shooting (Protests, FBI Probe Intensify)

The Trump administration has said it will send “hundreds more” federal officers to Minneapolis after protests broke out when a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the officers would arrive “today and tomorrow” to make sure ICE and Border Patrol agents can do their jobs safely. The administration says the agent acted in self-defense, but local officials disagree, saying Good was not a threat. Noem called her actions “domestic terrorism” and said she had “weaponized” her car. There have been big but mostly peaceful protests against ICE in Minneapolis and other US cities. The police say they made 31 arrests over the course of two days. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disagreed with Noem’s description of the incident and said that federal agents now outnumber local law enforcement. Democratic Senator Tina Smith said that the administration was trying to cover up the shooting. The White House denied this, but the FBI said it would look into the incident as national attention and unrest grew.
