NPP Moves to Expel Frimpong-Boateng (Party Rejects ‘Fake’ Label, Defends Primary Integrity)

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has started the process of kicking out former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng. This is because he called the party “fake” during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026. He also said that he no longer considers himself a member of the party. The NPP said in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong that it had taken “due notice” of what it called “disparaging remarks” and accusations by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng that the 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favor of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The party “unequivocally rejects” these “baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” stressing that the contest was “free, fair, transparent, and credible” and widely accepted by all candidates. The party said that his behavior was “highly reprehensible and harmful to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party.” They said that his public comments hurt the party’s internal discipline and cohesion, and they said that they had “invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to begin the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process.”
