GSA Postpones Smart Port Note Rollout (Stakeholder Consultations Delay Feb 1 Launch!)
The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) has put off the start of the Smart Port Note (SPN), which was supposed to start on February 1, 2026. They said they needed more time to work out some issues and make sure everyone was on the same page. The Authority said in a notice on Wednesday that the decision follows its earlier announcement on December 23, 2025, and is meant to give stakeholders more time to give their input before the rollout. They also said that a new implementation date will be announced in due time. The SPN is an advanced shipment information system that the GSA set up as part of L.I. 2190. Its goals are to make trade easier, make sure that regulations are followed, improve cargo monitoring, and make sure that shipping and logistics data at Ghana’s ports are accurate. The plan, which will be carried out in collaboration with the Inter-Ocean Maritime and Logistics Institute Limited, will include all shipments to and from Ghana, even those that are just passing through. It was agreed upon after a lot of discussions with groups like GUTA, AGI, the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, TAGG, and a number of freight forwarding and customs associations.
