CETAG Suspends Nationwide Strike (Members to Resume Classes After Gov’t Pays Entitlements!)

The National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has called off its indefinite nationwide strike, which started on November 24, 2025, after the government released money to pay off some debts. The strike was first called because the government didn’t follow an arbitral award from the National Labour Commission (NLC) that was made more than two years ago. CETAG confirmed that the decision to end the strike was made by all members of its National Executive Committee and National Council at an emergency meeting on February 14, 2026. This was after funds were released to cover Year-Round Work Compensation, 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance arrears, and the 2022 Research Top-Up Allowance for Akrokeri College of Education. The Association called the development a big step toward settling long-standing complaints. It also said it trusted the NLC to handle the two remaining issues that are still being decided and told members to return to their academic duties on Monday, February 16, 2026. It thanked them for their support and urged them to stay united as they continue to work with the authorities.
