Small-scale gold boom: Ghana’s production jumps 23% to 5.94m ounces, artisanal miners now control majority of output.

Ghana’s gold production rose sharply by 23.41% in 2025, climbing from 4.82 million ounces in 2024 to 5.94 million ounces, driven largely by a historic expansion in small-scale mining, industry figures have shown. Data presented at the 98th annual general meeting of the Ghana Chamber of Mines in Accra over the weekend indicated that small-scale production surged from 1.90 million ounces in 2024 to 3.11 million ounces in 2025, representing a 63.82% increase. The growth lifted the sub-sector’s share of national output to 52.4%, supported by policy and regulatory reforms, including the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), which stakeholders say has helped formalise and boost artisanal production.
