AU Appoints Akufo-Addo to Lead Congo Election Observer Mission (Departs March 13)
The African Union has chosen former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to head its Election Observation Mission to the Republic of the Congo. The mission will go to the country before the presidential elections on March 15, 2026. A statement from his office on March 10 said that the mission will include members of the AU Permanent Representatives Committee, the Pan-African Parliament, the African Governance Platform, election management bodies, independent experts, civil society organizations, and women’s and youth groups to help make elections fair and open. Akufo-Addo is set to leave Accra on March 13 and come back to Ghana on March 18 after finishing the job.
