MP Baffour Awuah: Finance Ministry Audit Claims Not Backed by Official Report (Parliament Needs Full Disclosure)
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the MP for Manhyia South, has cast doubt on the credibility of a report that was presented in Ghana’s Parliament and said to be from the Ghana Audit Service. He said that the statement read by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem did not make it clear that it was based on the Auditor-General’s official report. He said on Joy FM’s Top Story that the presentation didn’t have enough information and looked more like a typed statement than the actual audit document. He also said that members of the House didn’t get the full report. He pointed to Article 187 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which says that the Auditor-General’s report must be formally presented to Parliament for debate and sent to a committee for further investigation. He said that the statement did not refer to specific parts of the report, which made him doubt whether the claims made were based on the audit findings. He also stressed the need for the actual report to be presented to ensure transparency and accountability.
