RTI triggered: Tolon MP demands energy levy accounts, where’s the mandatory report Parliament never saw?

The First Deputy Minority Whip and Tolon MP, Habib Iddrisu, has officially invoked the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) to demand detailed disclosures from the Energy Ministry concerning what he terms a failure to submit a mandatory report on energy-sector levies. In a letter to the Information Officer of the Ministry, he cited portions of the Energy Sector Levies Act, 2025, to argue that the law requires the Minister to maintain an Energy Sector Support Account and submit an annual report to Parliament by March 31 each year — a duty which he says has been neglected. As a member of the Energy Committee, Iddrisu requested data on the total revenue collected under the amended levies law, and a detailed breakdown of how the funds have been spent in a clear and accessible format. He said the request was vital for effective parliamentary oversight and called on the Ministry to reply within 14 days with the information to be sent to his office at Parliament House in hard copy.
