Galamsey exposé coming, Bawumia’s aide names names, alleges top officials are knee-deep in illegal mining.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said that he will expose the involvement of high-ranking officials in illegal mining (galamsey) in the coming days. On April 29, speaking on Breakfast Daily, he stated that his claims are based on firsthand observations and highlighted what he called widespread impunity and weak enforcement, questioning the handling of excavators and accusing authorities of returning them to operators without proper accountability. Aboagye also warned of increasing environmental degradation, including the destruction and pollution of river bodies, some of which he said have stopped flowing, and the attendant risks to livelihoods and water security. The NPP communicator also accused the government of placing financial gains from illegal mining above long-term national interests, a claim that is likely to increase political tensions around efforts to fight galamsey.
