Ghana’s Ohene-Akoto lands World Energy Council role, Africa now has a seat at the global power table.
Justice Ohene-Akoto, Executive Director of the Africa Sustainable Energy Centre (ASEC), has been appointed as a Member of the Standing Committee of the World Energy Council, a move widely seen as a major milestone for Ghana and Africa’s growing influence in global energy leadership. The appointment recognises his contributions to sustainable energy development, innovation and policy advocacy across Africa, where he has championed initiatives aimed at expanding energy access, promoting industrial growth and supporting climate-resilient development. Under his leadership, ASEC has become a leading platform for energy policy dialogue and was named Energy Think Tank of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Energy Awards. Stakeholders in Ghana’s engineering and energy sectors have described the appointment as a significant achievement, with Ohene-Akoto expected to contribute to global discussions on sustainability, energy security and equitable access to power while representing Ghana and Africa on the international stage.
