NPP cries foul over Abronye’s detention: ‘State is using security agencies to silence our people.’
The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Haruna Mohammed, has accused the state of using the security agencies to intimidate officials of the opposition party. According to him, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, is being unfairly targeted. Speaking on Channel One TV’s Newsroom programme on May 17, he said Abronye’s continued detention was politically motivated and the allegations against him did not warrant the level of security involved in the case. Haruna Mohammed also questioned the decision to detain the NPP official in a facility he said was meant for national security matters not for offences involving personal liberties or misdemeanour.
