Shot, not silenced: Adwoa Safo injured in Kristo Asafo leadership clash, family says founder revoked son’s succession in 2024.
The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo has rejected any claim by his son, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission, insisting that the succession plan established by the founder remains binding. In a statement issued on June 21, 2026, the family reaffirmed that former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo is the recognised Head of the Kwadwo Safo Family and the principal representative of its interests. The statement follows a deepening leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission after the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo in September 2025. According to the family, although Israel Safo was designated as successor in 2017, the founder revoked that mandate in 2024 due to concerns over the management of church-affiliated businesses and deviations from the church’s founding principles, subsequently appointing Adwoa Safo as Head of the Family and excluding Israel from the succession roadmap. The family further alleged that Israel Safo and some church elders attempted to organise a private installation ceremony in defiance of the founder’s directives, prompting legal action by two church members who secured a court application to restrain the event. The dispute escalated on June 21 when Adwoa Safo reportedly went to serve court documents on her brother and was allegedly shot at, sustaining injuries to her left ear and right hand. The Ghana Police Service confirmed the incident, arrested six suspects, retrieved several firearms, and invited Israel Safo and another individual for questioning. The family has urged the public to disregard any leadership claims by Israel Safo that contradict the late founder’s directives and cautioned against engaging in transactions purportedly made on behalf of the Kristo Asafo Mission or the Kwadwo Safo Family without proper authority.
