Adwoa Safo’s survival 50/50, family says pellets entered her head, doctors pushing for overseas treatment after shooting.
The family of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Adwoa Safo, has expressed deep concern over her condition following an alleged shooting incident, describing her chances of survival as “50/50.”
According to the family’s spokesperson, Dr. Emmanuel Boakye, Ms. Safo sustained multiple gunshot wounds while seated in her vehicle as she reportedly attempted to serve her younger brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, with a court notice seeking to halt his installation as successor to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Dr. Boakye disclosed that the former legislator remains in critical condition and continues to undergo intensive medical treatment due to the severity of her injuries.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Thursday, June 25, he painted a grim picture of her condition.
“The survival of Adwoa Safo, in percentage terms, I will say, is 50/50. The situation is very bad. She has undergone surgical operations, check-ups and other medical procedures almost every day. The latest was around 8 p.m. yesterday. She can’t even hear. I don’t know if she has any pellets in her ears; they removed some from her ears. I understand some of the pellets also entered her head. They are working on it. We need your prayers,” he said.
Dr. Boakye further revealed that medical specialists have advised the family to seek advanced treatment abroad, prompting arrangements for her transfer to an overseas medical facility.
“The doctors are advising that, considering her condition, we do everything possible to take her abroad for further treatment. The situation is very serious. If I am told today that Adwoa is dead, I will not be surprised. Her body and head are swollen,” he added.
Meanwhile, the nine individuals accused in connection with the shooting incident have been granted bail by the court.
The accused persons were admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 each with two sureties. Although the sureties are not required to be justified, they must sign a bail justification form as part of the conditions set by the court.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
