Amewu Endorses Ken Agyapong (Says He’s NPP’s Best Bet for 2028 Flagbearer)

Former Energy and Lands Minister John Peter Amewu has backed Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as the best candidate among those running for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 flagbearership contest. He says Agyapong best represents the current mood of the country. Mr. Amewu told Joy News’ PM Express that he was backing one of the five leading candidates because he had known them all personally for a long time. These candidates included Kwabena Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Bryan Acheampong, and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, all of whom he said were capable. He did say, though, that the 2028 election would be “not a normal election” and that the party needs a candidate who can bring people together and connect with regular voters. Mr. Amewu said that there was a lot of support for Kennedy Agyapong from taxi drivers, market women, health workers, and the general public. He said that Kennedy Agyapong had a clear competitive edge in terms of empathy, leadership, collaboration, and public appeal. He agreed that the other candidates had strengths, but he thought Kennedy Agyapong was the best candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general election.
