Asantehene Delivers Crucial Bawku Peace Report to President Mahama
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was set to give President John Dramani Mahama an update on the work he has been doing to help settle the long‑running dispute in Bawku, as part of ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace in the area. Otumfuo was named earlier this year to lead talks between the rival groups involved in the chieftaincy issue, starting discussions in April 2025, pausing briefly, and then continuing in May, which brought about a measure of calm. The report he prepared is expected to outline what has been learned, the progress made and suggestions for what should happen next. Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have increased their presence in Bawku, and Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Boako has said that combining open dialogue with stronger security should help stop the violence and allow people to return to their normal lives.
