Bawku rivals finally meet — and there was NO shouting, NO chaos. Asantehene came with PEACE energy
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has made a plea to the groups in conflict over the Bawku chieftaincy issue, urging them to make a commitment to permanent peace. He reminded them that they are “one people” and that they must continue to coexist no matter what the result of the mediation is. On the date of Monday, December 1, 2025, the Asantehene convened a conference between representatives of the Mamprugu and Kusasi factions for an uncommon face-to-face gathering in the Manhyia Palace Jubilee Hall in the city of Kumasi. This follows months of various engagements that were intended to bring an end to the protracted war that has been ongoing. Both delegates recognized that there was no valid justification for them to be in conflict with one another, and the conference took place in an environment that was particularly characterized by goodwill. The Asantehene commended their conduct, stating that their politeness and maturity were a positive indicator for the peace process. The leaders were encouraged by him to start getting their people ready for a future that is free of violence. He emphasized that in Bawku, harmony is contingent upon a joint commitment to living side by side without conflict. He reminded them that, regardless of what the mediation resulted in, they would still be required to cohabitate with one another as siblings and sisters. He called for the cycles of distrust and disorder that had destabilized the region to come to a stop. It is anticipated that His Majesty would send a report about the mediation, together with his suggestions, to President John Dramani Mahama in the days that are to come. Following this, a more comprehensive gathering of stakeholders will take place.
