BIG PUSH, SMALL MONEY: AGBOdZA WARNS ROAD BUDGET CAN’T MATCH GH¢110B NEEDS.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has been authorized by Parliament for a budget of GH¢5.3 billion in the year 2026 in order to assist in the enhancement of the road network in Ghana. This funding is in addition to the GH¢30 billion in oil revenue that has been reserved under the Big Push Programme for significant road construction projects. Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads, however, claims that the allocation falls well short of what the ministry requires, stating that they are now managing road contracts with a value of more than GH¢110 billion. He emphasized that, even if the sum of money seems to be significant, it is still insufficient. The ministry has said that it would persist in its efforts to make progress on significant road projects and that it will continue to seek more help despite the shortfall in financing.
