DVLA Under Fire: Pre-2023 Car Owners Face Extra Charges (Calls Grow for Fair, Simple Onboarding)

Recently, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) said that owners of vehicles registered before 2023 must pay GH¢25 to have their records updated digitally. This process is called “onboarding” and is meant to verify ownership and block vehicles that aren’t customized. Vehicle owners must go to DVLA offices or designated centers with their vehicles, registration papers, customs forms, and Ghana cards for biodata verification. But reports say that some centers are charging GH¢242.30 instead of the approved GH¢25, which makes the process more expensive and difficult for car owners. Some people are worried that the approach seems too hard and could set a bad example for other government agencies. Some people have suggested that the DVLA management look over the process to make sure it follows the official fee and makes it easier for people to sign up.
