EOCO Grants John Darko Enquiry Bail in GH¢27m SIC Financial Loss Investigation
John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame and Legal Counsel to the Minority Caucus, has been granted enquiry bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after reporting to investigators over an alleged criminal conspiracy involving SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited. In a statement dated October 13, 2026, EOCO said Mr Darko honoured its invitation at noon and cooperated fully during questioning. The Office said the investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions that have resulted in a revised estimated financial loss of approximately GH¢27 million. It stressed that the decision to grant bail was based on the circumstances of the case, applicable law and his cooperation, adding that no conclusion had been reached on the culpability of anyone involved.
The investigation also involves Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who was engaged by SIC Life in 2020 to recover a debt from Equity Savings and Loans Limited. In July 2024, SIC Life, Equity and Eco Swiss Investment Limited reached a settlement under which SIC Life agreed to accept GH¢5 million in full settlement of a revised judgment debt of GH¢14.85 million. The state alleges that Mr Baffour Awuah helped arrange the transaction and later transferred GH¢1 million to the then Managing Director of SIC Life. He faces charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, intentionally causing financial loss to a public body and money laundering. EOCO also confirmed that former SIC Life Savings and Loans Managing Director Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah had honoured its invitation and was cooperating with investigators. The investigation remains ongoing, and the grant of enquiry bail to Mr Darko does not establish wrongdoing.
