Deputy Superintendent of Police The director of the Department of Victims and Vulnerable Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Obuasi, Benedicta Biney, has called on those who have been victims of domestic and gender-based violence to come forward with reports of abuse and to seek out support services without any sense of apprehension. She has drawn attention to the fact that the effects of this violence may be physical, emotional, and psychological in nature. As a part of the 16-day activism campaign that is being held in 2025, she was a speaker at a seminar that was put together by the Maudester Ofori Foundation in collaboration with the Acts of Grace Foundation, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana Education Service. The purpose of the session was to discuss violence that is based on gender. The program, which was entitled “Understanding gender-based violence: the law, your rights, and how to report,” was attended by more than 300 people, including students, teachers, and stakeholders. The health effects of violence, the significance of early reporting, and the role of religion, morals, and respect for human dignity in avoiding abuse were also underlined by the speakers, including nurse Olivia Otubea Addo and CEO Belinda Amponsah-Boadu.
