INTERPOL Deletes Ofori-Atta Red Notice (Lawyers Hail Win, CCF Rules Case ‘Political’)

Lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, say that the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) has ordered that his name be permanently removed from the Red Notice list. This decision was made during its 135th Session on February 4, 2026, when the notice requested by Ghana’s National Central Bureau was found to be “predominantly political” and not in line with INTERPOL’s rules. The Red Notice was sent out in June 2025 by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) after Ofori-Atta didn’t show up for a meeting on June 2, 2025. This led Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to declare him wanted again and start the process of extraditing him. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers said he had cancer and asked for a video-recorded interview, but the OSP refused, saying he had to be there in person and warning that he could be prosecuted even if he wasn’t there. The OSP is looking into him for five major cases that happened while he was working for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. These cases include revenue assurance agreements with the GRA, ending a contract with Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology for the Electricity Company of Ghana, the National Cathedral project, a deal to buy ambulances, and the management of the GRA’s Tax P-Fund.
