Mahama Acts! Gov’t Terminates All SML Contracts After Explosive OSP Findings
Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and six other individuals have been formally charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor with corruption and offenses linked to corruption. There are 78 charges of corruption and offenses linked to corruption. The other defendants are former Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Commissioner-General Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah (64), former GRA Commissioner-General Emmanuel Kofi Nti (66), and Ernest Darko Akore (67), Chef de Cabinet to the Minister of Finance. The remaining individuals are Isaac Crentsil (63), a former GRA Customs Division Commissioner; Kwadwo Damoah (65), a former GRA Customs Division Commissioner; Evans Adusei (62), the accused company’s beneficial owner, CEO, and controlling mind; and the beneficiary company, Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd (SML), formerly known as Strategic Mobilization Enhancement Ltd. Following the conclusion of an inquiry by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), President John Mahama issued an order on October 31 to immediately terminate all contracts with Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML).The government claims that the action demonstrates its commitment to openness and accountability in the administration of public funds. It comes after months of investigation into the SML contracts, which were the focus of an OSP examination into corruption and offenses connected to corruption. Ensuring that the termination process is conducted in complete accordance with current financial and legal regulations is the responsibility of the Finance Minister.
