MP Agyare Slams Fiscal Projections (Queries $240m GoldBod Loss, Demands Budget Transparency)

Alexander Agyare, the MP for Kade and Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Budget Committee, has spoken out against how the government handles money, saying that it makes unrealistic revenue projections and doesn’t explain a supposed $240 million loss involving GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana. He said that the government has set even higher revenue goals for 2026, even though it missed its goals for 2025. He thinks this is unrealistic. Mr. Agyare also brought up “ghost releases” to ministries, departments, and agencies, where money looks like it has been given out on paper but hasn’t actually been given out. He pointed to the Controller’s office as a concern. He asked for accountability for the reported financial loss and stressed that the Budget Committee of Parliament will increase its oversight to make sure that public financial management is open.
