NACOC arrests mastermind behind 320kg meth shipment to Australia, A$296m drug haul traced to Ghana.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested the suspected leader of a drug trafficking syndicate connected to the seizure of approximately 320 kilogrammes of methamphetamine hidden in a charcoal consignment from Ghana and intercepted in Australia.
The arrest represents a significant breakthrough in investigations that began after Australian authorities announced on June 19 that they had intercepted the drugs, which were estimated to be worth A$296 million, before they entered the country’s illegal drug market.
Speaking at NACOC’s annual drug destruction exercise in Accra on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the Commission’s Director-General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended following a three-month intelligence-driven operation carried out jointly by NACOC, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and other national security agencies.
