Red alert in senior highs: CHASS warns persistent funding delays could trigger a shutdown, Free SHS under strain.

Primus Baro, the National Secretary of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), has said that delays in getting money for school feeding and operations are putting a lot of stress on Ghana’s education system. This could lead to problems in senior high schools. He said on JoyNews that the problem has come up again since the Free SHS policy was put in place, making it hard for school heads to run their schools. His comments come after a stakeholder meeting led by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu that didn’t come to any conclusions about how to fill funding gaps. After that, school officials issued a “red alert” warning that second-cycle institutions might have to close if help isn’t given right away. Mr. Baro said that CHASS is working with the Ministry to find a long-term solution and that he hopes for immediate action to avoid any problems with the academic calendar. He also said that they had not yet received any official word that a resolution had been reached.
