Republic Day moved to July 3, public holiday shifted from Wednesday to Friday under Act 601.

The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, July 3, 2026, will be observed as a statutory public holiday in commemoration of Republic Day.

Republic Day, which is traditionally marked on July 1, falls on a Wednesday this year. However, in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as amended, the observance has been moved to Friday, July 3.

Under the amended law, statutory public holidays that fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday are to be observed on either the preceding Monday or the following Friday to provide greater convenience and consistency in the national holiday calendar.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior said: “The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 3rd July 2026, marks Republic Day, which is a statutory public holiday.”

The Ministry urged the public to observe the day accordingly and participate in activities commemorating Ghana’s attainment of republican status.
