Shippers Authority: No Role in ‘Emergency Conflict Surcharge’ (Gyampo Says Probe Underway)
Ransford Gyampo, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, has made it clear that the Authority is not in charge of collecting or charging any “Emergency Conflict Surcharge” fees that some shipping lines are said to be charging. He said that shipping lines set their own prices and that the GSA only regulates local shipping-related fees and does not charge extra fees. Prof. Gyampo said that he learned about the problem from a complaint on social media the night before. This made him contact the person who made the complaint right away to get proof and start an investigation. He stressed that the Authority has not received any official notice about the supposed emergency fees and repeated that the GSA is not responsible for putting them into effect.
