Transport Minister Unveils Airport Security Upgrade (Aviation Week Spurs Safety Culture)
Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, has said that Ghana’s airports will get new security technologies and equipment to make them safer, more secure, and easier for passengers to get through. He spoke at the start of the first-ever Aviation Security Culture Week, which was put on by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and had the theme “Promoting a Strong and Dynamic Security Culture.” He stressed the need for proactive steps to protect against threats that are always changing, like terrorism and illegal interference. The event lasts for a week, from February 9 to 13, and includes quizzes, awards, passenger interactions, security awareness training, and stakeholder engagements. Its goal is to make security a part of everyday airport operations. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of GACL, said that the initiative is a “way of life” for the aviation sector. Reverend Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, talked about how everyone is responsible for keeping a strong security culture. The program brings Ghana’s aviation industry in line with ICAO’s global security efforts. Its goals are to improve vigilance, stop illegal interference, and protect airports as national assets.
